The UK will be taking part in its biggest annual reading book day tomorrow.
Every year thousands of events are organised in schools, bookshops, libraries and other venues to celebrate World Book Day. The main aim is to encourage people to explore the pleasure of books.
Publishers, booksellers and interested parties work together across the country to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment of all.
It marks the 80th anniversary of St. George's Day where people exchange books and roses. This day origins from Catalonia, Spain as a way to honour the author Miguel de Cervantes who died on 23 April 1923.
In the UK World Book Day started only in 1998, launched by former prime minister Tony Blair at the Global Theatre in London.
Gift
Every year on March 5 several million schoolchildren are to get a £1 World Book Day book token as a special gift, which can be redeemed against any book in any UK bookseller.
Winsford Library in Cheshire is organising an exciting programmes to celebrate
World Book Day.
A Words for the World coffee morning in support of BookAid International will be held, with the first ever reading of the county’s specially commissioned short story.
