Four to six women a month are being referred to fertility experts at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro because of the lasting effects of chlamydia.
For many of these women conception is only possible with the help of IVF treatment or surgery.
Jonathan Lord, consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology, said: “Every week we see women who are no longer fertile because of Chlamydia and a number of lives are affected on a daily basis.”
