Dr Conrad Murray: gave singer sedatives
Reuters
Michael Jackson's doctor is expected to be charged with the pop-singer's sudden death when he flies into Los Angeles today to await charges of involuntary manslaughter.
Dr Conrad Murray was Michael Jackson's personal doctor. If charged' a judge will decide whether Murray will stand trial in court.
Michael Jackson died unexpectedly on June 25 last year at his home in Los Angeles aged 50. His death was ruled as homicide. He was due to take part in a comeback tour in London to sellout crowds.
Dr Murray's leading lawyer, Ed Chernoff, told Reuters news agency that his client was in Los Angeles. "If the cops want him he's not hiding. We'll be happy to surrender him and they know that," he said.
Admits
Murray was alleged to have been with Michael the morning he died. He admitted to investigators that he gave the 50-year-old singer sedatives.
A post-mortem into Jackson's death revealed that the singer had the powerful anaesthetic propofol in his body, which should only be given in a hospital by trained staff.
There has been broad media speculation over the cause of Jackson's death last year. His memorial was held on July 7, 2009, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, attended by celebrities and a live worldwide television audience.
Since Jackson's death the singer has become the biggest selling albums artist of 2009 in the United States with over 8 million sales.
