Lorraine Read (r.): "Dan was my hero"
The funeral of a bomb disposal expert from Cornwall will be held, with full military honours, at Truro Cathedral at 11am on Thursday 4 February.
Captain Daniel Read of 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) regiment, was killed in an explosion in the Musa Qaleh area of northern Helmand Province on Monday 11 January 2010.
The 31-year-old, who lived at St Columb Road, was an experienced operator and attended 21 tasks in Afghanistan. He had returned to Afghanistan three months after being injured in another blast.
At the time of his death, his wife Lorraine said: "Dan was so brave, he was my hero and best friend, he was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will never be forgotten and always in my heart. I'm so proud and privileged to have been your wife."
The service will be led by the Dean of Truro, the Very Reverend Dr Christopher Hardwick. Tributes to Captain Read will be paid by his senior officers.
Four of Britain's top bomb disposal experts have been killed over the past year trying to make the Taliban's makeshift bombs safe including Captain Daniel Read, from near Newquay and Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid, from Truro.
