Falmouth residents are teaming up with police to stop anti-social behaviour in the town.

Volunteers will patrol the beaches to act as a deterrent against petty crime and vandalism.

The Streetwatch scheme is currently in use across 19 police forces, though this is the first of its kind in Cornwall.

Sgt Gary Watts unveiled the plan to Falmouth Town Council.

Low-level crime is a long-running problem around Falmouth's beaches in the summer months. The scheme will initially see volunteers operating in the Gyllyngvase area.

Funding is in place and six residents have already come forward. Their role is to approach anyone involved in anti-social behaviour or report them to the police.
