Jamie Mackie: winner in relegation battle

Plymouth Argyle treated their fans to a rare win at home to Derby County last night, as they finally began to mount a challenge in order to escape relegation to Coca-Cola League one.

The club breathed a sigh of relief as they beat fellow championship strugglers Derby County 1-0, in a late winner at Home Park.

The Pilgrims scored in the 82nd minute through Jamie MacKie securing only their fifth win out of 25 this season, putting an end to Derby's three match winning streak.

Club manager Paul Mariner said: "We believe you make your own luck and the lads are delighted to get points and move up the table again."

The win pushes Argyle up to twenty third in the Championship, and with games in hand over a number of teams placed above, they could possibly leap frog to eighteenth.

Plymouth's next two fixtures will be challenging. They meet Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday away from home, followed by title contenders West Bromage Albion the week after at Home ground.
