German nuclear power plant in Bavaria

The Japanese nuclear crisis has sparked a call to review European nuclear strategies.
Germany has closed down seven of its nuclear power plants built before 1980 and is reconsidering its nuclear strategy.
The reactors will be taken offline and the country is to carry safety checks on the remaining plants, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said.

People protest: 'Kosovo should belong to Serbia'

The EU is to preside over the first high-level talks between Serbia and Kosovo since Pristina declared independence from Belgrade in 2008.
Belgrade has described the progress as "a historic reconciliation", although the Serbian capital still refuses to recognise the independence of its former province.
The talks in Brussels will include trade relations, customs and property records and are believed to have come about as a result of pressure from the EU. It is seen as progress towards the eventual EU membership of the two countries.

Hillary Clinton: move is "deeply negative"

Hillary Clinton will arrive at the Moscow summit tomorrow as anger over Israeli settlements hinders the peace progress in the Middle East..
Mrs Clinton will join the meeting of the Quartet of International Mediators in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, due to start on Friday.
Hope for successful peace discussions were diminished earlier this week when Israel declared it would build 1,600 new homes in East Jerusalem. The US Secretary of State said the move was "a deeply negative signal" for the Middle East peace process.

Greece, Spain and Ireland are still among the worst affected by the world’s economic recession, which started over a year ago.
Greece’s manufacturing sector is weakening, unemployment in Spain has reached 19 per cent and Ireland is now facing a €1bn bill to pay for university students.
