Female drivers face higher premiums

Dundee photographics

Male and female drivers will no longer pay different insurance premiums under a new ruling by the European Court of Justice.

It means insurance firms in Europe will have to change their system for calculating insurance premiums and pension annuities.

Currently, men under 30 can pay up to double the amount for car insurance as statistically women are considered to be safer drivers.

The prices of policies are expected to even out when the ruling comes into force in December 2012.

Image for Toyota Corolla faces recall

The world's best-selling car, the Toyota Corolla, could be recalled over a possible power-steering problem.  The company has yet to make an announcement.

Toyota has already recalled 8.5 million cars worldwide, 180,000 of those in the UK.  There are concerns about the floor mats trapping accelerators and sticky pedals becoming slow to respond.

The Corolla has not been sold in the UK since early 2007, when the Auris model took over.
