Image for Schools miss music potential

Music has the potential to help pupils develop both personally and musically if taught well.

But some schools are failing to harness the full power of the subject, an Ofsted report has found.

Provision was found to be good or outstanding in half of the schools visited. The best progress was made when the school had a “clear sense of why music was important”. 

In these schools music also helped to bolster pupils’ self esteem and increase their development in other subjects.
