Minimum alcohol prices would have no effect on consumption, say health specialists.
The government is planning to change the way alcohol is sold in both England and Wales by introducing a minimum price.
They propose to stop retailers selling alcohol at a price below the rate of duty plus VAT, making cheap beer and spirits more expensive. For example, a can of weak lager would cost 38p and £10.71 would be the cost for a litre bottle of vodka.

A United Nations report has revealed millions of people world wide have no access to safe drinking water.
The new GLAAS Report, which is published by UN Water and the World Health Organization, found funding for the provision of water services in poor countries has fallen by nearly 40 per cent in the past decade.
It says 900 million people have no access to clean water while 2.6 billion people do not have adequate sanitation.

Research has emerged which will please latte lovers everywhere, Coffee could actually be good for you.
Four cups of coffee a day could lower heart palpitations, a new study from the American Heart Association has revealed.
It looked at the effect of coffee on over 130,000 participants. Those who drank four cups a day were said to have an 18 per cent lower chance of having to go to hospital for heart palpations, drinking 1-3 cups a day meant the number dropped to 7 per cent.

Each dementia patient costs the economy £27,647 each year
Nearly one in five dementia sufferers live in the South West, according to the Alzheimer's Research Trust. This amounts to 40,000 people - 20 per cent of the national average.
In the trust's dementia 2010 report, it says the disease costs the UK twice as much as cancer, three times as much as heart disease and four times as much as strokes. On present trends, it claims the UK's approach to managing dementia is unsustainable.

Cases of C-Diff in the South West's hospitals have fallen by over one third in the last eight months.
The latest figures show that the region is performing far better then expected.
The NHS report shows that there were 276 confirmed infections of Clostridium Difficile in December against a target of 411.
The disease is caused by an imbalance of bacteria within the gut and symptoms include diarrhoea and fever. The elderly at most at risk of the infection with 80% of cases occurring in the over 65.
