Redundant public telephone boxes in Cornwall are being used to encourage book exchanges among neighbours.

Village residents came up with the enterprising idea to save the familiar red boxes when they were no longer neeed to make calls.

A million books by famous authors were handed out to celebrate World Book Night in the UK and Ireland.

From Falmouth to Fife, the books were given away in cafes, book shops and libraries in a bid to promote the joys of reading.

Most startling among the rediscovered collection by Daphne du Maurier is a risqué novel entitled 'The Doll'.

The UK will be taking part in its biggest annual reading book day tomorrow.

Every year thousands of events are organised in schools, bookshops, libraries and other venues to celebrate World Book Day. The main aim is to encourage people to explore the pleasure of books.

Publishers, booksellers and interested parties work together across the country to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment of all.

Cornish boys and their fathers are being encouraged to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday March 5 in the county's libraries.

World Book Day is the biggest annual celebration of books and reading in the UK. 

Cornwall library service is holding a variety of events to encourage people to visit their local library.

On World Book Day all library users can make up to ten free requests for specific books.
