Image for Women get ready for Dartmoor

Dartmoor: 30km trek challenge

An all-woman team is taking part in the Shelterbox Dartmoor challenge this year, thanks to the development group Evolution.

The 30-kilometre mile trek across Dartmoor is on September 11/12. It includes five teams entered by Evolution, one of which is for women only.

The idea is to to give women the chance to join in if they do not feel comfortable in a mixed group.

Image for Chimps learn from each other

Chimpanzees in the Congo are learning new skills that make them more efficient hunters.

Scientists have discovered a community in the Goualougo Triangle which is displaying new forms of behaviour not shared by other chimps.

As part of their research they filmed the primates making brush-tipped rods out of sticks which they then used to extract termites from their burrows.

The frayed ends enable the chimpanzees to collect ten times more termites, which is a vast improvement on other techniques.
