CO2 emissions: linked to climate change

Pledges made by the government regarding its carbon capture and storage plans could create over 100,000 new jobs and inject £6.5 billion a year into the UK’s economy by 2030.

The strategy, outlined by the Department of Energy and Climate Change today, claims to improve industrial growth, enhance the UK’s energy security and expects to address the issue of climate change.

Image for Acid sea raises diversity fears

Rising acidity in the seas could cause mass extinction on a scale not seen since the time of the dinosaurs, a leading British scientist has warned.

Dr Carol Turley says that the oceans of the world have become 30% more acidic since the industrial revolution due to carbon dioxide emissions.

Up to half of the carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels in the past 200 years has been absorbed by the seas.
