Image for Lovers face daffodil shortage

Valentine’s Day faces a lack of colour for many romantics, if millions of daffodils fail to flower in time.

Florists across the country may face a shortage in supply.  Widespread snow and frost have destroyed some crops and delayed others by up to four weeks.

The supply of daffodils isn’t the only problem. Florists are complaining of problems with the quality of the flowers that they are buying. This is beacuse the cold is stunting their growth.

"Transition season" for the Pirates

Five players have agreed new contracts with the Cornish Pirates beyond the end of the season.

Fly-half Johnny Bentley has extended his contract by a year, keeping him with the Pirates until 31 May 2011.

Flanker Sam Betty, number eight Blair Cowan, scrum-half James Doherty and lock Chris Morgan have all signed deals until 31 May 2012.

A club spokesman said that it was good news for the club. He emphasised that it was a transition year for the club after the appointment of so many new coaches.
